Welcome to my Inn! — err, kitchen. As many you may already know, I have a terrible and soul crushing obsession with Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. I JUST CAN’T STOP, OK?

I’ve made a few Hearthstone in the past, such as Hearthscones and The Polenta Coin, but it has been a while since my last Hearthstone recipe. But, I’m here to fix that because…

JUSTICE DEMANDS RAVIOLI.

…I’ll see myself out.

This recipe is extra healthy as it combines whole wheat flour, lean turkey and Quest protein powder. We’re all ’bout those GAINS!

Whole wheat causes the dough to be much more denser, so you will want to roll the pasta sheets as thin as possible.

UNIT COMPOSITION

salt

pepper

1 1/2 scoops of Quest protein powder

1 cup of water

1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour

3 tablespoons of olive oil

2 sprigs of rosemary

6 cloves of garlic, sliced

1/2 onion, diced

3 eggs

1 cup of spinach

1 1/2 cups of ricotta cheese

1/4 lb of ground turkey

BUILD ORDER

Prep time for this recipe is about 40 minutes. Cook time is about 25 minutes. This will make 3 servings (3 large raviolis). There may be some left over filling.

Each serving will contain about ~22g of protein.

OPENING

Place your whole wheat flour and 1 scoop of protein powder on a flat and flour-dusted surface.

Make an indent and crack your eggs. Using a fork, mix the eggs. Once the eggs have been mixed, add in the water and begin slowly incorporating the flour into the liquid to create the dough.

Fold the dough in on itself until you can create a large dough ball. Cover the dough with a slightly damp towel. Allow the dough to rest for about 30 minutes. During this time, prepare the turkey filling.

MID GAME

Set a large skillet on high heat. Add in 1 tablespoon of olive oil.

Saute 2 cloves of garlic and your chopped onion.

Add in your ground turkey. Season with salt and pepper.

Add in your spinach.

Once the turkey has cooked, remove it from the heat and place in a large bowl. Allow the mix to cool for about 10 minutes.

Add in your ricotta cheese and remaining protein powder. Stir to combine thoroughly.

LATE GAME

To prepare your pasta sheets, break your dough into four sections. Using a rolling pin (dusted with flour), roll your dough sections into sheets small enough to fit through your pasta machine. Dust your pasta machine with flour. You will want your pasta rolled out on the thinnest setting possible.

Once your pasta has rolled out, cut out circles (I used a 4″ cookie cutter).

Cut out 4 long triangles and 4 short triangles. This is to create the points of the Hearthstone star.

Place the triangles in alternating fashion on top of a circle. Place about a tablespoon of filling in the center of the circle.

Place another circle of dough over the filling and crimp the edges together. Create the Hearthstone logo using a thin strand of dough.

Set a pot of water to boil and season with salt. Cook your raviolis for about 5 minutes and remove.

While your raviolis are cooking, prepare your sauce by combining your remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil, garlic and rosemary in a hot pan. Allow the garlic to brown. Remove from heat and set aside.

Plate your ravioli. Then, drizzle your rosemary olive oil sauce over the ravioli. Make sure to place some toasted garlic over the ravioli.

Garnish your plate with rosemary sprigs.

Eat!

GG WELL PLAYED!

Now that you’ve learned how to make Well Played Ravioli, GET IN THERE AND COOK, MAGGOT!

Also, woohoo, Happy Birthday Hearthstone! <3

——————————————————————————————————————————–

As many of you may know, I have developed a crippling addiction to Hearthstone: Heroes of WarCraft. This became incredibly evident when I devoted a few days perfecting my Hearthscones recipe in honor of the game:

Maybe you can cook them in a hearth…

Many hours went into grinding ranked ladder prior to the end of Beta Test Season 1. Eventually, all of the time spent paid off because I reached Legend rank and managed to stay in the top 50 for Season 1! I’m pretty proud of this accomplishment and I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of my boyfriend.

For the past few weeks, I have been unable to pry myself away from my computer because I was so entranced with the game and so focused on climbing the rankings for Season 2. I went through so many different revisions that it’s difficult to remember what my original rogue deck even was. At some point, there were two Defias Ringleaders and then a few hours later, they were replaced with Loot Hoarders.

(ง ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)ง This is our town, scrub. (ง ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)ง (ง •̀_•́)ง Yeah, beat it! (ง •̀_•́)ง

After many many changes and many many games, I finally broke into Legend rank! I feel that if I maybe changed class, I might have had an easier time climbing ladder, but I was too darn stubborn to change from Rogue.

ROGUE 4 LIFE.

But enough rambling about ladder — what’s for dinner?

THE POLENTA COIN!

The Coin is a card in Hearthstone that you receive for losing the coin-flip (meaning you play second). When played, The Coin will give you 1 extra mana for that turn. Unlike it’s in-game counter-part, the Polenta Coin will give you nutrition and will satisfy your hunger so you can get back into the game!

UNIT COMPOSITION

FOR THE POLENTA

salt

3 teaspoons of butter

1 1/2 cup of medium-ground corn meal

1 cup of chicken broth

1/2 cup of milk

2 cups of water

FOR THE TURKEY

salt

pepper

1 teaspoon of thyme

1 tablespoon of olive oil

crushed garlic

1/4 lb of oyster mushrooms

1/2 lb of ground turkey

BUILD ORDER

Total prep time is roughly 30 minutes. Cook time is about 10 minutes for the polenta and 30 minutes for the turkey patties. There is roughly 2-3 hours of idle time. This makes 4 servings.

OPENING

Bring your water and chicken broth to a boil. Add in a little salt.

Once your water has begun to boil, add in your corn meal and stir. Reduce the heat to medium.

Add in your butter and milk. Stir occasionally until the polenta has become thick. Remove from heat.

Line a baking dish with parchment paper. Pour your polenta on top of the parchment paper.

Gently shape the polenta into a square and allow the polenta to come to room temperature. Once it has cooled, place a piece of cling wrap over the polenta and put the polenta in the refrigerator.

Allow polenta to cool for about 2 -3 hours.

MID GAME

Combine your thyme, garlic, salt, pepper, and ground turkey in a bowl.

Pre-heat an oven to 375°(~180° C).

Shape your ground into small 1 1/2 inch hexagon-shaped patties (they will expand).

Bake the patties in the oven for 15-20 minutes.

LATE GAME

Put a skillet on high heat. Use half of your olive oil and saute your oyster mushrooms until golden brown (~3-5 minutes). Remove mushrooms from skillet and place them on a plate. Gently wipe down the skillet with a damp paper towel.

Remove your polenta from the fridge. Use a 3.5″ ring cookie cutter on the polenta to create the coin rounds. You should be able to cut at least 4 coins from the polenta.

Place the skillet back on high heat and add in your remaining olive oil.

Place your polenta coins in the skillet and allow them to slightly brown. Allow for each side to brown for about 2 – 3 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium low and allow the coins to reheat.

Once the polenta coins are warmed, use a 2.5″ cookie cutter ring to imprint a circle on the coin. Place the turkey patty inside of the circle and plate on top of your mushrooms.

Eat!

WELL MET.

I mean, GG WP.

Whether you’re going first or second, the Polenta Coin will still make a delicious Hearthstone-inspired meal!

See you on ladder! Or, if ranked ladder isn’t your cup of tea, maybe I’ll see you in Arena!

About a month ago, I got into the Hearthstone beta and subsequently spent all the moneys on desperately trying to get amazing cards. At the time, I was building a rogue deck, and anything non-rogue was immediately disenchanted. NEVER GONNA PLAY A WARLOCK ANYWAY I GUESS.

This is our town, scrub.

Eventually, I collected and crafted enough cards to build my rogue deck and jumped into ranked play. However, climbing the ladder to Masters 3 was increasingly difficult!

I started messing around with a combo spell deck that relied heavily on setting up your spell damage minions and using headcrack/eviscerate. However, the meta shifted and people on the ladder expected this, so they would kill my minions ASAP… Especially my ringleader. This was clearly not our town, scrub.

Since it was all about control, I decided to try a rogue control deck. All them weapons! It worked for a while, but I got stuck in Masters 2. Then, I tried the Miracle Rogue deck. When it worked, damn, it worked… But most of the time, I would basically die before I got a chance to set up anything.

So, I did some research and crosschecked my decklist with the winning decklists from the ManaGrind tournament. I decided to go with a deck that had a lot of draw power and value minions, such as the Argent Commander. Well, it worked and I broke into Masters 3. Yippie! Plus, I got to keep my Defias Ringleaders. Yeah, beat it.

After getting comfortable with the card attributes and some strategies, I decided to take a stab at Arena. I got my butt kicked so much. Losing definitely sucks, especially when you basically throw the game because you played the cards in the wrong order or because you miscalculated how much damage you could’ve done that turn. I’ve definitely lost a lot of games because I miscalculated the amount of mana I had. Yes, I can totally use 2 of these 6 mana cost cards this turn. Wait a minute…Crap.

People are frighteningly good in arena, too. So when you make mistakes, it hurts a lot!
The people who play arena know which cards to draft, which cards synergize, and when to use those cards. It’s like they KNOW when I have a flamestrike in my hand so they don’t play extra minions before my turn 7. But, what they don’t know is that I have 3 more flamestrikes in my hand. MY MAGIC WILL TEAR YOU APART.

I wish I saw this more often…

The interesting thing about arena is that you also get a chance to test your skills with other classes. I don’t have enough cards to complete decks for all nine classes, but, it’s nice to take a break from rogue and mess around in arena with a mage or a druid.

Plus, you might even get lucky and draft a fancy legendary like Ragnaros or Sylvanas Windrunner!

Because of my new-found <del>crippling addiction to</del> love of all that is Hearthstone, I’ve decided to immortalize it into baked goods. And thus, Hearthscones were created!

So, pull up a chair by the hearth, and let’s start baking!

WELL MET!

UNIT COMPOSITION

1 pinch of salt

2 teaspoons of baking powder

4 tablespoons of butter, cut into small pieces

1 ¾ cup of flour*

¾ cup of sugar

½ cup of whole milk

1 bartlett pear, chopped

½ cup of blueberry preserves

1 egg (this is for an egg wash)

*if the dough comes out too mushy during mixing, you may need to gently fold in additional flour just to fix the consistency. I recommend adding them in 1/4 cup intervals.

BUILD ORDER

Total prep time is roughly 30 minutes. Cook time is about 16 minutes. This will make 6 scones.

OPENING

Combine flour, baking powder, salt in a large bowl.

Add in your butter. Squish the butter between your fingers in the flour. Keep doing this until the flour has somewhat of a bread-crumb like consistency.

Add in your sugar and gently combine with the dough.

Slowly pour in your milk and making cutting motions through the dough with a spoon to combine. You do not want to over mix the dough at this point.

Add in your chopped pear. Gently fold the dough until the pears have all combined.

MID GAME

Pre-heat your oven to 375° F.

Put the dough on a clean, floured surface. You’ll want to use a rolling pin in order to get the dough to the same size (~1.5 inches). Cut the dough into circles using a cookie cutter.

Place the dough circles on a baking dish lined with parchment paper.

Create the Hearthstone squiggle using foil. Imprint the Hearthstone squiggle into the dough.

LATE GAME

Scramble your egg and gently brush the egg over each dough circle. This will help the scones brown.

Gently spoon blueberry preserves into each squiggle imprint.

Bake the scones for about 16 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.

Eat!

Puffy scones!

HMM, WELL PLAYED.

And that’s GG! Now take your scones, scarf them down and go 9-1 in the arena.

Before BlizzCon, I actually sent a few batches of Hearthscones to Blizzard HQ!

I was incredibly worried that they would arrive in crumbles, but thankfully, they seemed to have made it in one piece! Vaeflare was kind enough to take care of the scones and distribute them to the teams.

Hopefully I’ve inspired you to bake your own delicious Hearthscones!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I hear the Arena calling my name. I WILL BE YOUR DEATH.
