A while back in an interview, I was asked by Vaeflare if I had any Heroes of the Storm themed recipes in the works. I responded with this:

“I plan to write some recipes about the heroes themselves. How awesome would it be to take a bite out of Sergeant Hammer’s BFG missile?!”

I finally sat down and created Sgt. Hammer’s smiley BFG missle… but in MEATLOAF FORM! Spreadin’ the loooove!

If you’re not familiar with Sgt. Hammer’s Heroic Ability, “BFG” or Blunt Force Gun, it’s basically a smiley missile that launches across the map.

KABOOM!

Now, this isn’t your ordinary meatloaf… This is a STUFFED meatloaf full of vegetables and cheesy goodness. It’ll explode with flavor!

This recipe has been kicked up with added protein in the form of crispy Quest Protein Chips!

UNIT COMPOSITION

salt

pepper

1 teaspoon of worcestershire sauce

2 teaspoons of smoked paprika

2 tablespoons of smoked chipotle paste

2 tablespoons of ketchup

2 cloves of garlic, chopped

5 mushrooms, chopped

1/4 cup of broccoli, chopped

1/4 of shredded pepper jack cheese

1 onion, 1/2 chopped and 1/2 left in reserve

3-6 pitted black olives

1 1/2 lb of lean ground beef (I used 90/10)

2 bags of Quest BBQ Protein Chips

1 red pepper

BUILD ORDER

Prep time for this recipe is about 35 minutes. Total cook time is roughly 1 hour 10 minutes. This makes ~5 servings.

Each serving contains: 34g of Protein, 16g of Fat and 2g of Net carbs.

OPENING

Set a small pan on high heat. Add in your olive oil.

Saute your chopped garlic, mushrooms and broccoli.

Let them cook for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

MID GAME

In a large bowl, combine your worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, paprika and ground beef.

Crush 1 bag of protein chips and add it to the meat mixture. Add in 1 tablespoon of chipotle paste. Stir to combine.

Lay a large sheet of plastic wrap on a flat surface.

Put your meat mixture on top of the plastic wrap. Squish the meat against the plastic wrap to make it flat.

Place your sauteed vegetables on top of the flattened meat. Be sure to leave about an inch of room on each side. The ends will require about 2 – 3 inches of space.

Grab the edge of the plastic wrap and begin rolling the meatloaf on top of itself.

Place the meatloaf in a baking dish.

LATE GAME

Shape the meat into a “missle” shape — one side pointy, the other side flat.

Cut small wedges out of the red pepper. These will be the “fins” of the missle. Place them in a circular formation on the flat end of the meatloaf missle.

Mix your ketchup and chipotle paste. Spread this mixture over the pointed 1/2 of the missle.

Cut a mouth and eyes out of your remaining piece of onion. Place them on to the meatloaf.

Slice pupils from your olives. Place them on top of the onion.

Crush your remaining bag of chips. Sprinkle them over the un-sauced portion of the meatloaf.

Cut an olive in half. Use a straw to poke a circular piece through the olive. These will be the rivets. Place them on the edge where the sauced portion touches the chip-coated portion.

Pre-heat you oven to 360° F. Cook the meatloaf for about 50 minutes – 1 hour, or until done.

Eat!

GG WP!

Now you’ll have a tasty and protein-packed meal that will keep you and your Heroes team fed.

It’s a very very smiley meatloaf…

See you in the Nexus, hero!

But make sure you duck — never know when that BFG is going to fire from across the map!

—————————————————————————————————————

I’m glad to see that the Banshee is being used more often in TvZ. Gone are the days of the 1-1-1 Banshee all in because it’s become incredibly predictable — it’s so faux pas and unfashionable now. It’s been a thousand times and everyone’s sick of it. It’s like wearing parachute pants and crab dancing.

Stop! 1-1-1 all-in time!

The strategies have definitely changed in the past few months.

Recently, it has been all about massing up hellions, running into the Zerg base and then having a delicious Drone BBQ. Then, the Banshee happily flies in and starts ruining the Zerg’s day even more. She’s like the icing on your birthday cake. Happy Birthday, your Zerg opponent is down by 20 workers! Yay!

UNIT COMPOSITION

And you’re done! GG WP.

This recipe is quick and easy — perfect for an IPL5 meal. Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be any more Terrans in this year’s final season of GSL. That’s OK though; Zerg needs their time to shine. So, sit back, throw some burgers on the grill (or in a pan), and enjoy the weekend tournament.

The Marauder: he’s a big tanky guy who shoots rockets from his arms. He may act all tough on the battle field, but I’m pretty sure he’s just a squishy guy underneath all of that gritty armor. I’m even sure that he owns a little cat named “Mr. Sniffles” and enjoys a good soap opera now and then.

I actually have no idea what I’m talking about, but I do like having marauders in my army composition. When I was laddering nonstop, my standard go-to build against toss was SeleCT’s 2 Rax Pressure into expand. It was definitely a good build, however, it’s become a little outdated now. Now it’s all about the 1 rax or the CC first into tons and tons of marines. But what about the marauders? Don’t leave them hanging!

Let’s pay homage to the chubby little marauder with this sandwich.

Load up your marauders into your medivac sandwich and shift queue this medivac sandwich directly into your mouth.

Om nom nom nom. GG WP!

I would not suggest eating this sandwich while microing your marauders because this sandwich is extremely messy. You will need impressive stutter-step to prevent this sandwich from dripping everywhere. However, it’s totally worth it.

So enjoy!

Usually, I try to maintain a somewhat healthy diet. Fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean beef — all that good stuff. But sometimes, just sometimes, you need to be deviate from the norm. Maybe it’s a birthday or maybe you need some cheering up after a nasty losing streak (I know that feel, bro).

Crème brûlée is just the sugar fix you need. Crème brûlée is a deceivingly simple dish. Of course, there are many variations of Crème brûlée and this Hellion brûlée pays homage to the classic version.

UNIT COMPOSITION

1 cup (~226 grams) of sugar

1 table spoon of vanilla extract (real vanilla is better, but it is fairly pricey)

3 1/2 cups (~828 ml) of heavy cream

6 egg yolks

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

6 small ramekins

1 butane torch (if you don’t want to go out and buy a torch, you can try burning the sugar by placing them under a broiler)

BUILD ORDER

Prep time will be about 30 minutes. Total cook time is about 45 minutes. This recipe will serve about 6 people. Please note that you will need to allow the crème brûlée to cool in the refrigerator for at least an 1 1/2 hours before serving.

This recipe is also a slightly modified version of Alton Brown’s traditional Crème brûlée recipe.

OPENING

Pre-heat your oven to 325°F (~163°C).

Separate your egg yolks. You can do this by cracking open an egg and slowly passing the yolk from shell to shell over a small bowl. Place all separated yolks in a separate bowl. (You can save the egg whites and make an egg white omelette!)

Once you’ve separated all of the yolks, add 1/2 cup of your sugar into the eggs.

Beat until the mixture becomes thick. This process is called creaming.

MID GAME

Place a saucepan on medium heat.

Add your cream to the pan.

Add your vanilla extract to the cream.

Allow the cream to get hot, but not hot enough to boil.

Remove cream from heat and slowly add the cream to your egg mixture. This process is called tempering. Try using a ladle to slowly add the cream to the egg mixture.

Stir your egg mixture as you add the cream.

LATE GAME

Pour cream and egg mixture into ramekins.

Place the ramekins in a baking dish.

Pour water into the baking dish. There should be enough water to cover the ramekins more than half way.

Place baking dish in the oven.

Let the crème brûlée bake for about 45 minutes.

Remove crème brûlée from the oven and let cool on the counter for about 30 minutes.

Place crème brûlée in the refrigerator for about an hour and a half.

When ready to serve, distribute the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar among the ramekins.

Use a torch to burn the sugar until it caramelizes. Torches are awesome; but please be very careful during this process!

And that’s really all you need to do to create this classic dessert. GGWP!

Cracking the caramelized sugar layer is a pretty satisfying feeling! It’s even more satisfying knowing that you made that pretty little dish all by yourself. Yum.

If you’re a Terran fan and have a ton of extra time on your hands, you can try making a sugar stencil. I posted that image a while ago on r/starcraft and it seemed well liked. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as pretty up close. The original idea was to try to burn the Terran symbol into the crème brûlée… But, thanks to thermodynamic properties of sugar, that idea did not work out. Oh well, at least I can make sugar terrans everywhere!

Oh, and before I close out this blog, I wanted to share this with you guys:

A good friend of mine drew this adorable little character of me! She’s an artist by trade, but she’s also an amazing baker. Basically, she kept me and the rest of the office content with her delicious cookies. Ahhh cookies!

Thanks for reading!
