Rejoice, Nephalem, because Patch 2.0.1 is here! Huzzah!

There were many, many, many things that were added and changed in Patch 2.0.1. One of the shinier changes was the addition of a new brand of object to the map — the Pool of Reflection.

The Pool of Reflection will give you an added bonus pool of EXP that will last until you DIE! So try not to die, or all that glorious additional EXP goes to waste. Noooo.

I have died several times while holding bonus EXP, and each time was much more painful than the last. I should probably stop standing in front of Demon Forges. Hmmm.

Every time I approach a Pool of Reflection, I always wonder what the pool would taste like when consumed. Would it be earthy? Would it be garlicy? When your hero drinks it, do they ever ponder what wine would pair best with it?

Well, I think I’ve figured out what the Pool of Reflection could taste like… Parsnips and turmeric!

This healthy vegetarian dish will keep you alert for your many, many Diablo adventures! You can make this dish vegan too!

UNIT COMPOSITION

  1. salt
  2. pepper
  3. 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  4. 1 tablespoon of thyme
  5. 1 1/2 tablespoons of turmeric
  6. 3-4 whole cloves of garlic
  7. 1 1/2 cups of butternut squash, cubed
  8. 1/2 lb of parsnips, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch pieces
  9. 2 1/2 cups of vegetable broth

BUILD ORDER

Prep time will take about 20 minutes. Cook time is roughly 1 hour. This will make 6-8 servings.

OPENING

  1. Set your oven to 400° (~204° C)
  2. Place your parsnips, garlic, and butternut squash in a baking dish (you can make a tiny dish out of tin foil like I did).
  3. Season your vegetables with salt, pepper, and thyme.
  4. Drizzle olive oil over the vegetables.
  5. Roast for 45 – 50 minutes in the oven, or until the vegetables have become soft.

MID GAME

  1. Transfer your vegetables to a pot.
  2. Using a stand mixer, blend the vegetables until smooth. Slowly add in half of vegetable broth in order to make blending easier.blog_parsnipsofreflection_cooking2

LATE GAME

  1. Once your vegetables have become a smooth paste, place the pot over medium heat.
  2. Add in your turmeric and stir to combine.
  3. Add in your remaining vegetable broth and stir until smooth. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Eat!

Hello and happy new year!

We’re kicking off the new year with a recipe from the upcoming Diablo III expansion: Reaper of Souls. I was fortunate enough to receive a beta key from Blizzard and I immediately wasted no time in doing very important things during the beta test! For example, I’ve only spent 15 minutes talking to Soulstone Sliver in Westmarch.

OK, I lied. I probably spent way more time talking to the Soulstone Sliver. I just enjoy watching it spin around to face me when I click on it.

I did play through part of the Act V campaign and it’s really creepy. It’s creepy in a good way though. I don’t want to give out any spoilers, but there are encounters that seem very nightmare worthy.

I’m still trying to figure out a decent build for my Demon Hunter in preparation for Westmarch. Currently, I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate the new skill “Vengeance” into my build.

I enjoy running into areas full of mobs just so I can pop Vengeance and run around… However, when I’m too over-zealous, this happens:

Some things never change…

When I finished the Act V beta demo, I hopped straight into Adventure mode! I think it’s really refreshing because I can travel to any act and collect various bounties. Once you’ve completed all five bounties throughout the act, you’re rewarded with access to the Nephalem Rift.

The Nephalem Rift is full of delicious little mobs for you to kill and once you’ve destroyed enough of them, you get to fight a big baddie at the end.

blog_reaperofsoles_riftAnd after you’ve slaved away killing all of those darn monsters, you get rewarded with some sweet loot. Hooray!

Reaper of Souls is set to release at the end of March, but until then, I guess I’ll have to just make Diablo-themed recipes to combat my RoS cravings.

Today’s recipe is the Reaper of Soles, which pays homage to the reaper himself, Malthael.

Instead of being cloaked in dark robes, this fillet of sole is crusted in black sesame seeds and was quickly pan-fried on a hot skillet. The fish sits on a bed of souls — err, I mean, a bed of rice noodles.

This dish is simple and easy to make, so you won’t have to spend hours slaving away in your kitchen instead of fighting demons in Sanctuary.

Let’s start cooking, Nephalem!

UNIT COMPOSITION

  1. salt
  2. pepper
  3. 3 cloves of garlic, chopped
  4. 2 teaspoons of olive oil
  5. 2 teaspoons of soy sauce
  6. juice from 1/2 of a lime
  7. 4 tablespoons of black sesame seeds
  8. 1/2 of an onion, julienned (thin strips)
  9. 1 red bell pepper, julienned
  10. 1/4 lb of mushrooms, sliced
  11. 1/4 lb of rice noodles (I used these brown rice noodles)
  12. ~1/2 lb of dover sole (a fillet should be about ~1/4 lb)
  13. OPTIONAL: 2 sprigs of green onion, chopped

BUILD ORDER

This dish takes about 10 minutes to prepare, and about 15 minutes to cook. This dish makes 2 servings.

Calories per serving: ~400 calories

OPENING

  1. Place your sesame seeds in a shallow dish.
  2. Season your sole with salt and pepper. Dredge the fish in the sesame seeds. Once the fish is fully coated, remove and set aside.blog_reapersofsoles_dredge
  3. While you are dredging the fish, set a pot of water to boil for the rice noodles. You will want the noodles to cook while you’re cooking the fish.

MID GAME

  1. Heat a large skillet on high heat and add in 1 teaspoon of olive oil. When the olive oil reaches a water-like viscosity, add in your garlic, red bell pepper, onions, and mushrooms.
  2. Saute your vegetables until browned (about 4 minutes). Immediately remove vegetables and set aside.blog_reaperofsoles_saute

LATE GAME

  1. Add your remaining teaspoon of olive oil into the skillet. When the skillet comes up to temperature, add in your fish.
  2. Allow fish to cook for about 4-5 minutes per side on medium-high heat.
  3. While your fish is cooking, add your rice noodles to your boiling water. The rice noodles should take about 5 minutes to cook and should finish by the time your fish is done. Stir the noodles occasionally while they’re cooking in order to prevent them from sticking together.
  4. When the noodles have finished cooking, immediately strain them and return them to the pot. Stir in your vegetables, lime juice, and soy sauce.
  5. Plate your dish by placing your sesame-crusted fish over the noodle stir-fry.
  6. (Optional) Garnish your dish with green onions.
  7. Eat!
